Ramsey Canyon Birding
We planned the next part of our trip early on because Liz knew she wanted to spend a few days doing some real birding. Ramsey Canyon, in far south Arizona in the Huachuca Mountains near Mexico, is known as being a birding "hot spot." Saguaro National Park & Chiricahua National Monument
Another week of work and another week with two great stops on our itinerary. We arrived in Saguaro National Park outside of Tucson about 2 hours before sunset so had to set up quick and get a move on. We hit the visitor center to get our Park stamps and maps and then found a great dirt road and scenic viewpoint (with a structure built by the CCC in the 1930s) to catch an amazing sunset and then moon rise. Lost Dutchman State Park and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
After departing Sedona, AZ we headed south towards the Phoenix area where we encountered vast desert vistas very different from the mountainous red rock landscapes of Sedona. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park which is in the Sonoran Desert at the base of the Superstition Mountains, about a half hour east of Phoenix. Sedona: A Wonderland of Red
This was our first trip to Sedona, Arizona. We had seen photos and heard it was a beautiful place, but the Red Rocks area was more breathtaking than we imagined.
