2024 Texas Road Trip: Bryce Canyon National Park

Without doubt Bryce Canyon is one of our favorite National Parks.

This trip did not disappoint.

We started our visit by picking an RV campground about 20 minutes outside the park, thinking there was no way we'd be able to get a spot inside the park. What we didn't realize is April is still off-season, and it is actually fairly easy to get first-come first-served sites in the park itself. Since we arrived at the campground late the first day (9:45 pm), it was good to have a reserved space. Plus it had full hookups, a laundry room, and was peaceful, but it was 20 mins to the entrance of the park and we felt really disconnected.

So, it was an easy decision to move again. After a couple days, Liz drove up in the morning, got a beautiful spot, and gave the call. We met up an hour or two later and it was a game changer. We stayed in the North Campground, just a few minutes' walk to the trails along the rim of Bryce Canyon! It's open year-round and we'd definitely stay here again. Sunset Campground opened while we were there (it's seasonal) but it's across the main park road from the canyon, so probably not as ideal as North Campground. After our extended time in Texas and NM it was so nice to be in the pine trees and mountains again.

There was still snow on the ground in places and on the tops of the canyon walls, and it was chilly at night, but in the upper 60s during the day. We did a few hikes, including a sunrise hike among the hoodoos down to the Queen's Garden. The geology here is fascinating, views are spectacular, and the hikes are really accessible. These photos hopefully show why we really love it here.

One final note. While we were at Bryce we took a short side trip over to Kodachrome Basin State Park, just down the road. We were really happy we made the trip and now this is on our bucket list of places to come back and stay. The rock formations here are different and the Sand Towers are only found here in the world. The paved campsites in the canyon are amazing and await a future visit.
